Capture the screen.
Keep it yours.
RvgeShot is a free screenshot and screen recorder for Windows. Press a key, drag a box, mark it up — then copy it, save it, or record it to MP4. No account, no cloud, no ads.
How it works
Press, drag, done.
RvgeShot waits in your tray and stays out of the way. There’s no editor window to manage and nothing to sign in to — the whole tool lives on top of your screen for as long as you need it.
-
01
PrtSc
Press Print Screen
The screen freezes instantly on the monitor under your cursor — open menus and tooltips included.
-
02
Drag over what matters
A magnifier loupe and live dimensions make pixel-perfect edges easy. Move and resize until it’s right.
-
03
Ctrl+C
Copy, save or mark it up
Draw on the selection, then copy it to the clipboard, save it to your gallery, or save it as a PNG, JPG or WebP file.
Annotate
Mark it up right where you took it.
The toolbar opens under your selection, and everything you draw is flattened into the capture — including a pixelating blur that really hides what’s underneath.
-
Arrow
Point straight at the thing that matters.
-
Rectangle
Frame a button, a row or a whole region.
-
Ellipse
Circle a detail without covering it.
-
Line
Straight connectors and underlines.
-
Pen
Freehand, for everything else.
-
Marker
A translucent highlight over text.
-
Numbered steps
Click, click, click — 1, 2, 3 in order.
-
Text
Type a label right on the capture.
-
Blur / redact
Pixelate passwords, emails and keys for good.
-
Colour & undo
Any colour, an eyedropper, four sizes, undo and redo.
Record
Record the screen. Draw on it live.
Press Ctrl + Shift + R, drag out an area and hit Enter. RvgeShot records straight to MP4 or GIF with your cursor, mic and system audio. Circle things while you talk — the toolbar itself is never captured.
Gallery · New in 0.2.2
Everything you capture, one click away.
Every screenshot and recording lands in a local gallery you can search by name or tag. Click a recording to play it right there — scrub, change the speed, go full screen. Click a screenshot to zoom in to the pixel.
Privacy
Nothing leaves your computer.
Your captures are ordinary files on your disk, indexed by a small local database. There’s no account, no cloud and no telemetry — and that’s the whole system.
No account
Download, install, capture. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to sign in to.
No telemetry
The app sends no analytics or usage data. Not anonymously, not “to improve the product”.
Offline by design
Capture, recording, annotation and the gallery all work without a network connection.
Redaction built in
Pixelate sensitive details in screenshots — and in recordings, while you record.
Planned Private share links. Unguessable addresses (~128 bits), an optional password and an expiry from one hour to never. Never public, never indexed by search engines — and off unless you use it.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
Something else? Ask on GitHub.
Is RvgeShot free?
Yes. RvgeShot is completely free: no account, no ads and no trial. It runs on Windows 10 and 11; a macOS build is in testing.
How do I take a screenshot with RvgeShot?
Press PrtSc, drag over the area you want and draw on it if you like. Then press Ctrl + C to copy it, Ctrl + S to save it to your gallery, or choose Save as… to export it as a file.
Can RvgeShot record my screen?
Yes. Press Ctrl + Shift + R, drag out an area or pick the whole screen, and press Enter. RvgeShot records to MP4 (H.264) or GIF at up to 60 fps, with the mouse cursor, your microphone and system audio if you want them, and a pause button.
Can I draw on a recording while it runs?
Yes — the same tools you get on a screenshot. Arrows, shapes, pen, marker, numbered steps, text and blur, drawn live over the area you’re recording and baked into the video. The toolbar itself never shows up in the recording.
Can I play my recordings inside RvgeShot?
Yes. Since version 0.2.2, clicking a recording in the gallery plays it right there, with seeking, volume, playback speed and full screen. Screenshots open in a viewer where you can zoom up to 800% and pan, and the arrow keys move between captures.
Why does Windows warn me when I install it?
RvgeShot isn’t code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may show “Windows protected your PC”. Click More info → Run anyway. The installer is built automatically from the public source code on GitHub.
Does RvgeShot work on both Windows and Mac?
RvgeShot runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) today. The macOS build for Apple Silicon and Intel is in testing and goes up on the download page as soon as it’s ready.
What makes RvgeShot more private than other screenshot tools?
Nothing leaves your computer. There’s no account and no telemetry, the app works fully offline, and blur / redact is a first-class tool. Private share links — unguessable addresses, an optional password and an expiry — are planned, and will never be indexed by search engines.
